Awards Ceremony Part 1

Bobby Gets to Brag

Peter as QB

LAST GAME of 2009

Again I apoligize for the delay in posting this. Well we lost the last game to Western Tech, 22-8.
The Langs and The Gleasons have a friendly rivalry going - since Bobby goes there and Lisa teaches there. Last year WT won, 40-0. This year Western Tech won again so Bobby get bragging rights for another year. But we are getting closer!

Our quarterback, Adam had some elbow problems in the last couple of games, so the coach had to get creative with the offense and it paid off in the Sparrows Point game. In the Western Tech game we just could not get anything started. It started out on a sad note, we kicked off to WT and they scored on the opening kick-off return. Then they even scored the extra 2 points. A tough start. In the second half it looked like things might turn around for us. Western went 3 and out from their own 3 yard line. They had to punt from inside the endzone. The snap hit the uprights and he got the punt off - but it was called a safety! 2 Points for LR!!!! Then WT kicks off to us and #45 Khirhy Hayes runs it all the way back for a touchdown. We could not convert for the 2 points, and that ended our scoring for the day.

But then an exciting end to the game. With 3 minutes left to play, score 22-8 - last game of the season, Coach Elliott starts putting in the 2nd and 3rd string players. Everyone gets to play!
Just for fun - let's put Peter Lang in as QB. Coach knew he had a good arm, but could he scramble or handle the blitz? Well first pass, Complete! Second pass, Complete - with two penalties. Roughing the passer and a facemask against WT (Peter was victim of both penalties). We moved down the field. Peter goes for the long pass into the endzone, perfect spiral, right into the hands of Donte. But he drops it! Awwwwe. A few more passes (1 for 2) and then a pass to Anton, but WT gets in front of the pass and intercepts. Peter pushed the WT spoiler out of bounds. Time runs out for the game and the season. What an exciting end of the season.
Peter and the 2nd string held their own against WT's first string defense! Look for QB Peter Lang in the 2011 Season!

Peter was awarded the Sportsmanship award at the Fall Sports Awards. Varsity Coach Railey had some very nice things to say about the JV team.

So far he has raised a total of $1,240.25 for his charities. We are still waiting to hear about a few more donations. If you are interested in donating, please contact us ... kalmd@comcast.net

All in all it was a good year. It goes by much too quickly. Thanks for all your comments and good wishes. I have posted some highlights of the game, Peter's QB debut, Peter's award ceremony, and a tribute to Bobby and Western Tech. Enjoy!

Game #8 Sparrows Point

Do to the late posting time - you probably thought that we lost. Wrong .... We WON big time. It was the best game ever, very exciting. I have just been so busy and exhausted I have not made the time to sit down and tell you about it. We were home, and if you can remember ---- we only win at home! Well the lucky home streak continued and we won again ... 19 - 8. So we are undefeated at home 3-0, but our overall record is 3-5. We'll only count the home games!

Again another perfect day for fall football. It was spirit / homecoming week so everyone was really pumped up. Our quarterback had some elbow issues so the offense needed to get creative with many people handling the ball ... and it worked.

We kicked off to SP and pinned them about the 10. They kept moving the ball 3-4 yards and got down to about the 5. Then our defense kicked it into high gear and SP went 4 and out! LR took over on downs. SP had already ate up most of the 10 min quarter - about 8-1/2 minutes. But most importantly - the drive resulted in 0 points! Our first drive was less successful, we had a few plays, one completion but couldn't get a first down, we punted. And that was the first quarter.

Second drive, SP got 1 first down but then went 4 and out. We took over about the 15. After a play or two, #45 Khirhy Hayes took the snap from the center and took off! He went 85 yards for a touchdown! On for the extra point, delay of game so we get moved back - so we go for two --- no good. Score 6-0 Loch Raven.

LR kicks off and they return it to our 35. Good starting position for SP. First play SP passes, our #18 Will Staley jumps up and intercepts the ball, no return. LR takes over, 1st play pass, incomplete. Second play, #45 Khirhy runs for 15 yards, 1st down! Next play, incomplete pass, 2nd play #45 runs again another 15 yards and another 1st down! We're on the move! Hand off to #33, Alex Wallace he runs for 10+ to about the 15. Another 1st down! Hand off to #45 Khirhy again, almost takes it in. Get to about the 2 yard line. next play, hand off to #45 Khiry, goes wide left and runs it in untouched! Another Touchdown!!!! 12-0. Ryan Davis in to kick the extra point, oh no .. it's blocked. That's ok we are in the lead 12-0. We each had an unsuccessful drive and then it was halftime. Score at the half .. Loch Raven 12 Sparrows Point 0.

If you remember last week - we were leading at the half also - and lost the game. Well SP also came out from halftime on a mission. SP to kickoff - squib kick to the outside, a fight for the ball and SP comes out with it. They had a few good plays, but the defense held and we took over on downs. Next possession after a few tough plays, Sparrow Points, scores 6 and then scores the 2 point conversion as well. Will we lose it in the second half like last week? Score now 12-8.

SP kicks off, another squib kick, this time we are ready for it and we keep the ball. Offense couldn't get anything going we had to punt. SP has the ball they are making some ground. In the stands we are feeling a little restless, getting worried. Just then, SP goes for a long pass from about their 30 to our 30. Picked! by #86 Alex Francis, Alex runs it down the sideline to the 15! !5 yards to go for another touchdown and some breathing room. First play, hand off to #45 Khirhy - he gets stuffed. Next play, Khirhy hands off to #23 Devon Tate, he runs it about 8 yards. 3rd and 2 at the 8 yard line. Ball is snapped to Adam, he pitches it to his left, no one there to get it. We fall on the ball, but it is considered and incomplete pass. Come on Guys! We need a touchdown! 4th and 2 at the 8 yard line again ... Adam gets the snap, hands off to #45, Khirhy, Khirhy throws it to #80 Ryan Davis who is waiting for it in the end zone! Terrific play! We score 6, same guy, #80 Ryan Davis on the field for the extra point .... It's Good!
LR leads 19-6.
Sparrows Point on the move again, completes a pass for 18 yards and a first down. Next play goes for the long pass, Right to #86 Alex Francis again! We go 3 and out and punt. The have two attempts but time runs out! Loch Raven wins at home again!!!!! It was a very good game. I wish you all could have been at that one! I'll post some videos on Wednesday.

Fundraising .... Peter only had 4 Big Plays, 4 tackles. Now his total is ....$923.75.

One Game left. This Thursday, 4 pm at home. We play Western Tech. If you remember from last year, that is our friends' school. Lisa Gleason teaches there and Bobby Gleason is a Sophomore at WT. Bobby's sister Mollie is a Senior at Loch Raven. Last year WT beat us 40-0 - so we are looking for some revenge. Hopefully our home game winning streak will continue.

Our Motto is ... Go Raiders ... Beat Western Tech!

We hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween. Please everyone - keep washing those hands and stay healthy. Our boys have been battling something this last week. Not really too too sick, but feeling really bad and can't seem to shake it. First time ever Peter has missed Trick or Treating - boy was he bummed!

Friday night Varsity played Sparrows Point in our Homecoming game. I was told LR hasn't won a homecoming game in about 5 or 6 years. Sadly the streak continues. The game had a good beginning but then SP took a big lead. They were up at least 3 touchdowns. In the 4th quarter LR came alive. They scored 2 touchdowns and just needed one more! They were on the move but came up about 1 yard short before time ran out. So very close. Final Score SP 34 LR 27.
This Friday night is Varsity's last game as well. They also play Western Tech. Varsity's record is 2 - 7. Good Luck guys, it would be nice for the Seniors to go out with a win! Last year Varsity beat WT in the very last second of the game. Scored the winning 2 with no time left on the clock. So we say again ... Go Raiders! .... Beat Western Tech!

#45 Khirhy's Touchdown Run

1st Play of the series. Hand-off to Khirhy Hayes #45.
Khirhy busts a move and goes 80 yards for the Touchdown!

Pete Tackles New Town

Here are a few of Peter's Tackles.
He had 6 tackles on Thursday.

Game #7 New Town

It was another perfect fall day. A light breeze blowing, sun shining, a great day for football!
Loch Raven traveled to New Town High in Owings Mills. They game started with a good kickoff by Ryan Davis. Our special teams pinned them down around the 30.
First play for New Town - hand-off - they gain 7 yards. Next play - same thing - only this time - a gain of 0. They try 2 passing plays, both incomplete. We take over on downs at about their 35. A couple of successful running plays and #45 Khirhy Hayes runs it in for the touchdown! Ryan Davis in for the extra point kick .... It's Good! Raiders strike first 7-0.
Next series, New Town moves the ball down the field, the running back breaks loose and scores.
They go for 2 points. 2 point conversion - No Good. Raiders still have the lead. 7-6
Loch Raven starts their next drive on the 20. 1st play - hand-off to Khirhy Hayes, #45, he going, still up, still moving - he could go all the way ... and he does - Touchdown! This time coach calls for a 2 point play - Hand-off to #10 Dashawn Marshall and he's in for 2 points! Raiders leading now 15-6. Close to the end of the half, the Titans (New Town) are on the move. but they run out of time.
New Town has only 1 win and Loch Raven has two. Well I must say the coach of New Town gave their guys a real pep talk. They came out to do their warm-ups and were loud and all pumped up. They carried this new vitality through the second half of the game.
New Town went on to score 3 more touchdowns. The Raiders could not hold them and the Raiders offense could not get anything going. New Town wins 24 - 15.
One thing I must say about the defense, they are pretty good on defending the 2 point conversion. The Titans attempted the 2 pointer - 4 times, and all 4 times they got stuffed!!
Our defense just needs to stop the 6 pointer.
The first half was much more exciting - but all in all it was a good game. One minor injury, our defensive leader, Trey Mostyn injured his ankle. He is questionable for this Thursday's game.
Varsity lost to New Town 32-0 on Saturday.

Two games left. Maybe we just have trouble winning on the road. Both of our wins were at home. We are undefeated at home. This Thursday, Sparrows Point. This week is spirit week with the homecoming game (Varsity) on Friday. Nobody likes to lose during homecoming week.
Sparrows Point has a really good record and will be tough to beat. I sure the Raiders will do their best!

Peter's Fundraising ...
Good news .. Peter added had 6 Big Plays this week Total amount raised to date is $872.75.
The bad new is only two games left and Peter is way short of his dream goal of $2,000.00
So if you have already donated .... Thank you!
If you have not donated ... please consider it.
And please pass his request on to your family and friends. If you like just send us their email and we will send them anemail. Thanks for your support!
I will post some video of the game.

Everyone have a good week!

Game Number 6 - Lansdowne

Just like last year, our home game against Lansdowne was canceled and rescheduled to their location. Last year we beat them 6-0. This year, on their brand new Turf Field, they beat us 6-0. Just like the Ravens sometimes, we dominated in yards rushing, passing, and offensive time on the field. We had at least 3 series in the Red Zone. But we could not convert! They only got into the red zone just once, but they scored! Need to find the answer to that one, or sometimes it is just not meant to be.

It was a miserable, wet, cold rainy day. We saved our money and sat on the cheap side of the field close to our car. There was a six foot fence between us and the game, so I didn't tape most of the game. Not really any highlights caught on tape except two big runs by #45 Khirhy Hayes.
Our record is now 2-4. Varsity played Lansdowne after us at 7 pm, they won 28-8. Varsity's record is 2-5.
On the brighter side, Peter got 3 tackles and 1 sack = 4 Big Plays. His fundraising total is now up to $791.25. We only have three games left. If you have not donated yet, please do so now. Thank you!

The next game is at New Town High School in the Owings Mills area. Thursday, 4 pm.
Lets hope for a WIN and many BIG PLAYS!

Varsity vs. Pikesville

I just wanted to post this video of a really good drive the LRHS Varsity had on Friday night. They are some Peter's friends and I know they want to see it, and I want to share it with you! All are Juniors except Max Wilson, Senior. So Peter will be playing with these guys next year. He played with Steve and Hisham on JV last year. Carlton was on Varsity as a Soph.

Quarterback Steve Boudouris throws a long ball to Max Wilson - an amazing catch in double coverage, 2nd pass to Hisham Ziyout who almost takes it in for a TD. Then a handoff to Carlton Arrington for his first Touchdown of the season. Our Band gets fired up! Jamell Randolf (Senior) on for the extra point .... It's good. Raiders take the lead 7-0. Unfortunately Varsity lost 26-15 but it was a very good game. Their record is 1-4.

Win Number 2

LRHS 26 Pikesville 22

What a beautiful night for a game. The fall colors are starting to show. The sun still shining a light warm breeze blowing. Perfect weather for a WIN!

Loch Raven Kicks off to Pikesville, Pikesville fumbles, LR recovers! What a way to start the game. Of course 2 plays later we fumble. Its all good they fumble again and we recover. Two plays later we score!!!!

Loch Raven strikes first with a big running play, Khirhy Hayes Touchdown! Ryan Davis kicks the extra point, oops, blocked! Pikesville answers with not one but two touchdowns and 2 extra points, score now Pikesville 14 Loch Raven 6. Pikesville kicks off to Loch Raven, it's a low to the ground squib kick recovered by Devon Tate on the sideline, Tate starts running ... Dodges a few tackles, weaves in and out, stumbles a little, regains his momentum and TAKES IT TO THE HOUSE, or CRIB as he likes to say! TOUCHDOWN TATE, as Joe likes to say! Let's go for two this time says Coach Elliott. Handoff to Tate's cousin, Khirhy - He's in for two. Loch Raven ties it 14-14. Time to break the tie, another running play for Khirhy - He SCORES! Let's try for two - no good. Score 20-14 Loch Raven. Well of course our elation was short lived, Pikesvile scores again and makes the 2 point conversion. Pikesville on top 22-20. Just a few minutes left in the game. Pikesville has the ball. Hand off to the running back - Peter grabs him from behind, falls back and takes him down. On the way down he lets go of the ball - FUMBLE - LR Recovers!
Handoff to Dashawn Marshall - he's in for 6! Go for 2, stopped. Loch Raven now on top 26-22. Well there is still time left so the defense has to hold them. 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd down .. nothing. 3rd and 8 Pikesville goes for the pass .... complete - 1st down on our 40. Pikesville goes for another pass play - Picked by Dashawn! Next play, Offense on the field to run out the clock. Loch Raven wins 26-22.
Wish you were there! It was a very exciting game. Best of all, no injuries!
Take a look at some of Peter's Highlights!

Fundraising Update:
After the last game I realized I had made an error. The flat fee donations were added in my total twice. I had reported the total to be $575.00 - it should have been $390.00. The good news is with extra donations coming in and Peter's 11 Big Plays this week, the total is now $680.25. It's never too late to add your name to the list of sponsors. Right now Peter earns $12.75 for his charities for every "Big Play" he makes. That does insprire him to work harder! After tonight's game he said, I brought the money in tonight Mom, 10 tackles and 1 forced fumble. Right now he has to make 60 "Big Plays" to raise just over $1,000.00. I think he can do it! If you want to sponsor Peter, please let us know so we can count you in our totals. THANK YOU!

Game 4 - Owings Mills

Hey Everyone - Sorry for the delay in posting this. I guess I was in no hurry.

To quote Peter's Facebook Page ... "Worst game of my life and nothing like this will ever happen again!"

They lost ... 40-0. Peter only had two tackles. I think this week in practice they are making some more adjustments to cover the injured players that are out. I also think we had the toughest part of our schedule first. Maybe the last 5 games will be a little bit easier.

Picture: After the game, ready for the long bus ride back to LR. To quote a girl from Owings Mills -"You guys lost to Owings Mills - I can't believe that".

Our Varsity played Owings Mills on Friday night. Owings Mills had not won a game in over 5 years, They were 0-56, until Friday Night. Owings Mills beat LRHS 12-0. Those kids looked like they won the Superbowl. They were so excited. Well in all fairness both teams deserved to win. They both fought hard games and were very determined. I hope our games start a winning streak for OM - until next year when we play them.

The bad news is I think Peter may have suffered a minor concussion. He had a bad headache during the game after a head to head collision with teammate, Terez. Peter hit his head and bumped his elbow. He was playing hurt the rest of the game. He still had the headache Friday and part of Saturday and Sunday. He never had any other symptoms and we kept a watchful eye. I kept him home from school on Friday and the coach had him sit out of practice on Monday. We had a discussion of the dangers of head injuries and the need to sit out when you are hurt - or maybe hurt. This is the tough part of football. I can deal with the boys' emotions of losing but seeing the kids get hurt is hard to deal with.

Well we were happy that in the 4th quarter the coach decided to play all the guys on the bench. So everybody got to play a down or two. Our good friend Tomas who plays on the O Line got to show us his stuff. He did well. He didn't let anyone bust through the line and the second play he knocked his guy down on the ground. Go Tomas! I feel bad that I didn't have my camera battery charged and it died just before halftime so I didn't get any video of Tomas. We'll get him next time! Everybody works so hard in practice it is nice to see the coach give everyone some play time. Next time I hope it is because we are winning 40-0!

Please keep all the football players, all ages and even the pros in your prayers. Pray that all players have a healthy season and no one is seriously injured.

The good news is Peter's fundraising total is now up to $575.00. He is now up to $10.25 per Big Play. At this rate if he reaches his goal of 55 Big Plays - he will raise almost $1,000.00. We are still looking to improve that total. Please email us if you are interested in sponsoring Peter. Thanks again for all your support.

Next game - this Thursday 4 pm - 10/08 - against Pikesville at Loch Raven High School Stadium. Hope you can come to the game.

PS - Thanks for coming out to the game - Aunt Nancy and Uncle Mike.

I hope to have lots of highlights and good news about the Pikesville game on Thursday night or Friday morning. Have a good week!

Game 3 Dundalk

Well it's another Saturday game - our last one! LRHS JV had a terrible day. Not only did we lose the game, 26-0 - but we lost two players. Logan Countryman (freshman) who was having and awesome game broke his arm early in the second half. In the forth quarter, Igwe (pronounced Eegg Way) Blount, Freshman, hurt his knee. He was taken to the hospital by the paramedics. Igwe was one of our big guys that plays on both the offense and defense lines. Get Well Fast Guys, We need you!

Peter had 6 tackles. He is now up to a total of $10.25 per Big Play. That means he earned, $61.50 for his charities - bringing his total to date .... $454.50. Six more games to go.

Next Game Thursday, Oct. 1 at Owings Mills - 4 pm. We need another win!

Loch Raven - In Conference 0-2 Overall 1-2

I hope to post some video later tonight.

Congrats to my friends Barbara and Bob Kavalsky as they welcome their 3rd Grandchild ...

Peter's Fumble Recovery (9/12/09)

LRHS JV vs Dulaney (09/12/09) Dulaney won 32-0 Peter recovers the Fumble BEHIND his back, falls on it, kids pile on and Peter still maintains control. Funny looking play! Enjoy!

Before and After Game Day Thurs. 9/17/09

Peter and Devon Tate were excited about getting their new home Game Jerseys. This is the first year JV has their name on the jerseys - if they attended 25 or more summer conditioning sessions. I took some pics before school. On game days they have to dress in shirts and ties.

Taken after game ...here is one of Peter and our new Quarterback this year - Adam Bouduris, Freshman after winning the game 10-0. Adam had a great game. Lots of successful short and long passes - NO Interceptions - and no turnovers. That's the way to play! That's the way to Win! Devon Tate scored a running touchdown. Ryan Davis scored the extra point and a 25 yard field goal. We got a kicker this year! Go Raiders! Peter had 8 tackles.

Hello Everyone!

Looks like I finally have a video clip loaded! Joe has been hounding Peter - "You have to knock those guys down and move" I guess it finally sunk in. Here is a clip of Peter (#77) hitting the guy with just his hands, they guy flys up in the air and lands on his butt. This was yesterday's game (Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009) vs. Baltimore Lutheran. LRHS won 10-0. Now our team is 1-1.

Peter had 8 "Big Plays". His rate is now $9.75 per Big Play. So this week he earned his charities an additional $78.00 - Bringing his total to date ..... $ 252.00. Keep those pledges coming - if you have not pledged yet - it is never too late. A Big Thank You to everyone who have pledged already.

The next game is next Saturday - Sept. 26th - 10 am at Dundalk High School

I still have to post some video of the fumble recover from last week.

That's all for now.

Sorry for the Delay

Hey Everybody,

Yes the football season has begun. This past RAINY Saturday - JV had their first game. In the words of Clint Eastwood in the movie Heartbreak Ridge, "It was a ClusterFu..." - you know Clint.
Well the game was suppose to start at 10 am. If you remember it rained, it poured, and poured all day Friday. I was sure the field would be a mess - I know ours would have been. But Dulaney has a fairly new stadium with a perfectly crowned field that has a well tended grass field, so that was not an issue. However Mr. Athletic Director - Don't schedule 2 football games in your stadium when you already have the opening All-State (about 20 schools) Cross Country competition the same morning - on the same campus. The lot was full of buses. Traffic was terrible.

On to our boys. They were suppose to be at LRHS at 8 am, board the bus at 9 am. Whoops, No BUS! The boys finally arrived more than an hour late. They came dressed in their uniforms minus their pads, jerseys and helmets. This is a practice the Varsity coach uses - he transports the rest of the equipment in his open pickup truck. Pete said because of the extra players they have this year there is not enough room on the bus. I think they could make room. Anyway the truck with the equipment arrived at least a half hour after the kids. All the equipment was already wet from rain. The 30 minutes they had before the game they exercised and stretched but did not have any footballs to warm up with. The truck with the equipment was late because he couldn't get through the traffic because of the cross country event!

Well needless to say the first quarter was really bad and that is when we lost the game. They scored 3 touchdowns in the first 4 minutes, all on turnovers. We fumbled three times in our own 15-30 yard area. But the boys did not lose heart. They played on. The final score was a sad 32-0. There was no scoring in the 2nd half of the game. Did our team improve/warmup or was it Dulaney's 2nd and 3rd string teams that made the difference. Keep in mind Dulaney was practicing for at least 2 hours before the game.

Our team looked confused at times. We have a lot more Freshman and first time players than 2nd year sophomores. I am sure they will get better with practice. I will get Pete's recap of the game tonight or tomorrow. I think he had 2 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery.

I hope to post the video of Pete's fumble recovery, He caught the ball behind him and fell on his back. Kids piled on but Pete held on to the ball.

Joe's sister Audrey sent this cartoon. I thought it was very fitting. Thanks Aud.

Fundraising ....

As some of you may know. Peter is using his 2009 Football season to raise funds for The Menkes Foundation and Ed Reed's Eye of the Hurricane Foundation. I think we may have made it too confusing. To simplify things - we want people to sponsor him $$ per play. This week he had a slow game, only 4 big plays. If you were to sponsor him for just 50 cents per play - then you would have donated $2.00 so far. We have not had much of a confirmed response. If you are able to sponsor Pete for any amount, please email us. He will be playing 9 games total.

Just email us ... kalmd@comcast.net - I will donate $______ per play.

Thanks and I will send another update soon!

Introducing the Blog

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to share our new blogspot with you. I thought this year for Pete's football updates I would start a blog. That way I can add more pictures and videos and not clog up your mailbox.
I hope you all enjoy. Pass it on ... the Lang's have a Blogspot!

Enjoy!

Kathy
